Keywords: hypnosis, ambiguous consent, 1st person

By the start of day two of Fascinate, the newest erotic hypnosis convention in the midwest, I was already fractionated all to hell. Welcome, readers. I’m Phil, your friendly neighborhood hypnotee/hypnotist switch.

For those of you new to hypnosis, fractionation is a practice of repeatedly going in and out of hypnotic trance. There’s a lot of talk about how and why it works for those it works for. How do I think of it? I’d say it’s like developing a path in the woods. You keep walking over the same path over and over, and your repeated steps pack down the dirt and make the path easier to follow the next time, and you can go deeper into the woods each time.

What I’m saying here is that I’m a hypno-slut. I’d already gone under during maybe half a dozen scenes with several guys in less than twenty-four hours. Some of those scenes had me yo-yo’ing from trance to wakefulness so many times I almost didn’t know if I was still under when we left the room. I was in a great headspace.

I tend towards being a curmudgeon a lot of the time, so I was really trying to push myself to be open this con. Going with a “Yes, and…” attitude rather than saying no to things that didn’t line up exactly with my interests. That’s why I had been able to have so much fun. And also why…

Walking through the hall after a workshop, Master Mixle held out a hand to get me to stop. Yes, he does ask everyone to call him that. A little weird and presumptive, in my opinion - both the taking the title “Master”, and the way he stopped me. But I also thought, “Y’know, why not?” Out loud, I said: “Hi there, what’s up?”

“Hello, Phillip. I heard you’ve been enjoying yourself this convention. I would like to work with you, as well. Does this interest you?”

“I’m trying to be more open this weekend, so sure. What’d you have in mind?” In my head, though, I heard a faint little “ping” noise. I’ll get back to that later.

“I thought you might join me in my room, and I would take you up and down, and give you an exciting trigger to play with.”

“That could work, sure.”

I tried some idle chat on the way to his room. He was apparently not receptive to my particular sense of humor. There’s no accounting for taste.

So we got into his room. He had me sit in the hotel cuck chair, and he sat on the ottoman in front of me. Before we started to get down to discussing what kind of induction worked and what he wanted to do with me, he got right to business. I imagined I heard another “ping” noise, ever so slightly louder than the first.

“Okay, Phillip, close your eyes. Squeeze them tight. While you squeeze them, you will tighten the muscles in your face. Keep them tight and then tense your neck, and your shoulders. Keep them tight. Now your arms and your hands. Tighten your hands into fists. And your chest and back. Everything staying tense and tight. Now your belly and ass. Tighten up your thighs and calves. Build that tension. Keep it building. When I start counting, deep breath in and hold it. When I get to one, you will breathe out and release all the tension. Five, breathe in. Four, building. Three, tension. Two, ready. One, release! Relax, breath deeply and calmly and let all the tension go as you sink deeper and calmer and deeper into a nice relaxing trance...”

The tension/release induction doesn’t usually work that well for me in and of itself. However, seeing as I had been, as I mentioned, “fractionated all to hell”, it certainly got the job done. I was a little fuzzy in the head, so I missed the rest of his patter as he talked me into a little deeper of a trance. I’ve been doing hypnosis for a while. With practice, it’s easier to get into the headspace. So give me the intention that you want me in trance, and I can go there readily, even if the hypnotist is still developing his skill.

My attention started getting pulled back to awareness as Mixle started trying to deliver the payload of this session. He had been repeating variations of this but something started off.

“You enjoy following suggestions, don’t you. Nod that you agree”

My head nodded lazily, because well, it is true.

“You enjoy following suggestions and obeying the hypnotist. When you obey the hypnotist, that makes you happy. Nod that you agree.”

I nodded again, because well, also true. Okay, I’m super-subby.

“When you follow my suggestions, and obey me, you will be happy. When you obey me, you are my property. Property should be labeled. When you wear my collar, you will be labeled and obey.”

The pinging in my head went from something in the distance to more of an alarm clock in my mind. I tuned out Mixle and took a deep breath in. In my head I counted from one up to five. Actually, I ended up finishing out loud, “Three. Four. And Five.” On five, I opened my eyes and looked at him.

“Yeah, Mixie, that’s not gonna work for me. Thanks.”

Mixle looked confused and said, “What now?”

“You set off my watchdog process. It didn’t like what you were doing, so it woke me up. I agree with it. I was okay with jumping right into trance. But jumping into property and ownership without any talk in advance? No bueno. Since I’m a little groggy, now’s not the time to talk. So I’ll be going now.” While I was talking, I stood up and stretched my arms. “If you want to do a post-mortem later, you can find me. Thanks for the nap, though.” And I walked out of the room.

So, everyone has that voice in the back of their head telling them something’s wrong now and then. The key is to enable it to do something. I’ve worked with friends to help me contextualize my watchdog process, as I call it. Whenever I encounter potentially actionable problems in a hypno scene, I’ll “hear” a pinging noise. I’ll usually brush off a couple of faint pings. More or louder ones become talking items for after, to let the hypnotist know what’s going on.

If the “ping” gets loud enough, it sounds to me like an olde timey alarm clock ringing, and I run through a wake-up process because something isn’t right.

Mixle called me “Phillip.” Nobody calls me that. That was ping number one, because he couldn’t be bothered to learn what I want to be called. Getting started without talk about particulars or setting boundaries was the second ping. I’m open to a lot, and I do like playing on the edge of consent at times. But that puts the onus on me to be self aware. So that wasn’t a hard no, but it did raise my watchdog’s hackles.

I might enjoy being submissive sometimes, and I definitely enjoy being a subject. But I’m nobody’s property. That sort of relationship needs advance talk.

So yeah, I left Mixle’s room and went and hunted down my favorite “evil ‘tist” friend who happened to be free at that moment, and asked him to help me with a quick reset after a bad scene. But that’s a story for another time.
